Purpose

1. Practice number sequencing

Materials

•  A pack of cards – with Q, K, and 10 removed, but keep J.
• Tell learners that J = 0

How to play

1. More or less: On a whiteboard make three columns.
2. Label the middle column “number” the one on the right one more than and the one on the left one less than.
3. From a pack of cards, take out only the cards 1 – 5.
4. Shuffle and deal them out to the learners (3 or 4 cards per learner). You write a number (2; 3; or 4) in the center – let’s say your write 3 –  and then you ask the learner on your left “Do you have one more than 3 or one less than 3 in your hand”.
5. If the learner does then they must put it in the right part of the whiteboard and say, for example, “Yes, 4 is one more than 3”.You then go to the next learner and ask “Do you have one less than 3 in your hand”.
6. If they don’t you go to the next learner. Once the board is complete put a new number in the center and continue going around the learners.
